Recently a friend of mine posted the photo in his WhatsApp status which reminded me of a great moment we had in the Serengeti on one of the evening game drives..
Again…. We are in the Serengeti and looking for cats.. a little while later while driving around, we came across a lioness with four cubs, Probably about one month old .. we followed them and they led us to a swamp. We thought they were going for a drink given that it was late afternoon and the sun was getting ready to set.
Suddenly she started stalking, but by the depth and the stickiness of the swamp non of us thought she was going into the dirt.. besides we all know how cats hate getting wet or deliberately wetting their feet, fur or themselves with water.. However this one was different,, driven by hunger, boldness and the desire to survive.. which you could see from her eyes and movement, she kept on stalking,, slowly approaching the target, which up until now we were not sure what it was. I kept thinking she wasn’t going to dive into that mud but I was wrong..as I was immersed in my thoughts we suddenly heard a splash and in she was…and Ooops she missed!! A baby warthog stormed out never to be seen again..And then our Lioness came out looking like nothing similar in the plains, dirty, stinking, and totally black like black Panther.
The cubs almost ran from her scared of her look…you could almost hear the cubs debating.. that’s not our mum but here she was.. eventually they reunited and passed by our car disappearing into the bushes. Then it clicked to me.. the Lioness had just taught us one of the greatest lessons in life.. like our friend said, Sometimes you’ve got to put aside your qualification and hustle like a drop out because PRIDE won’t pay your bills..😂😂😂 .. That’s exactly what the lioness had done.. she is the queen of the Savanah.
From her look, her walk and her stance there was no doubt she was the ruler and everyone knew that but at that point beauty and the crown had to be aside.. She didn’t care what she would look like or what others would say after or cared who was watching her… All she had in her mind was how she and her cubs were going to have a table full of desirable meals…. I guess we do go through life same way..
Sometimes we are required to start low but our prides and outside looks as well as other people’s opinions become our limitations… Do these other people’s opinions always have to be our realities?. I don’t think so.. my thoughts are as long as you know what exactly you want, it doesn’t matter what other think or how you will look like when doing what you necessarily have to do.. go for it.. get the work done and walk off towards another achievement and before you know it NOTHING can stop you… Not even the smell of other peoples gossips and what they think…My personal example is when I had to be a porter, a mechanic, a Chef or anything else before I became and qualified as a Safari guide.. I had to be all these to get the necessary experiences skills and knowledge AND win the trust and attention of those in the fields and have them want me in their team. And today I am proud to be best Safari Guide of the year 2023 in Tanzania ….against all odds… Thank you Nala for the lesson..
It’s neither the destination nor the journey, but who you journey with that counts…
