Our Journeys

Renate & Oliver’s Great Migration Journey

A 15-day safari through Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Central Serengeti, and Northern Serengeti — filled with extraordinary wildlife, twelve unforgettable river crossings, and a connection to Tanzania that keeps calling them back.

Their Journey

Following The Great Migration,
And Returning Again

Some journeys create wonderful memories. Others create a connection so deep that guests return again and again. Renate and Oliver’s story is one of those special journeys.

Their adventure began at River Trees Lodge near Arusha before continuing to Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobabs, elephant herds, and peaceful wilderness welcomed them into Tanzania’s wild beauty.

From there, they travelled through the Ngorongoro Highlands and into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater before entering the vast Serengeti, where the journey unfolded across the central plains and later toward the Mara River in the north.

Over four unforgettable days in the Northern Serengeti, they witnessed twelve separate river crossings one of the most extraordinary Great Migration experiences we have ever shared with guests.

Renate & Oliver

We will be back,
“Our safari through Tanzania was one of the most impressive nature experiences of our lives.”

The Great Migration

Witnessed twelve unforgettable Mara River crossings, with thousands of wildebeest and zebras moving through one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles.

Wildlife Understanding

Animal tracks, subtle movements, behavior, and the rhythm of the ecosystem turned each game drive into a deeper lesson in reading the wilderness.

A Returning Connection

This was not their first safari with Alama, and it will not be their last. Their journey reflects the trust and friendship that can grow through meaningful travel.

More Than A Safari

From dramatic wildlife encounters to quiet evenings of reflection, this journey became a life experience shaped by nature, care, and genuine connection.

A Journey Designed With Care

Renate and Oliver’s adventure began beneath the tranquil gardens of River Trees Lodge near Arusha before venturing into the wilderness of Tarangire National Park, where two nights at Tarangire Ndovu Lodge introduced them to Tanzania’s iconic landscapes of ancient baobabs, wandering elephant herds, and abundant wildlife. From there, they continued to the Ngorongoro Highlands, enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Acacia Farm Lodge before descending into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife sanctuaries.

The safari then unfolded across the vast plains of the Serengeti. After exploring the wildlife-rich central Serengeti, they travelled north toward the Mara River during the peak of the Great Migration. What happened over the following days exceeded even the highest expectations.

Over four unforgettable days in Northern Serengeti, we witnessed an astonishing twelve separate river crossings. Thousands upon thousands of wildebeest and zebras surged across the crocodile-filled waters of the Mara River in one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles. Dust rose from the riverbanks, tension filled the air, and every crossing seemed more powerful than the last. Even for experienced safari-goers, moments like these are exceptionally rare, making this one of the most extraordinary migration experiences we have ever shared with guests.

Yet the migration was only one chapter of a much larger story. From elusive leopards resting in acacia trees and cheetahs scanning the horizon to lions, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, countless antelope species, and remarkable birdlife, each day revealed new wonders. Sunrise departures often led to magical encounters, while evenings brought stories and reflections from another remarkable day in the African wilderness.

Throughout the journey, Renate and Oliver were particularly fascinated by the ability to read and interpret nature itself. Animal tracks hidden in the dust, distant movements invisible to the untrained eye, subtle behavioral clues, and the interconnected rhythms of the ecosystem transformed each game drive into far more than simple wildlife viewing. It became an immersive experience of understanding the wilderness and its inhabitants on a deeper level.

After returning through the Serengeti and back to Arusha, the safari concluded with a celebration at Alama Homestay, sharing stories from the journey and reflecting on the unforgettable experiences they had collected along the way. A final night at River Trees Lodge offered the perfect opportunity to relax and absorb everything before departing Tanzania for home.

What makes Renate and Oliver’s story especially meaningful to us is that this was not their first safari with Alama—and it will not be their last. After travelling with us multiple times and experiencing some of Tanzania’s finest wilderness areas together, they have chosen to return once again for another two-week safari adventure. For us, there is no greater compliment than welcoming guests back as friends.
